Healthy Schools Initiative (HSI)

The image outlines a community health framework focused on creating a healthy, safe, and engaged environment through various support systems.
HSI (Healthy Schools Initiative), the largest program of Sequoia Healthcare District, offers school-based health and fitness programs to approximately 28,000 students annually. We support the CDC’s Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model pictured on the right, emphasizing the importance of health for academic success. Our initiative provides significant financial support to local public schools within our geographic boundaries, enhancing wellness through partnerships with local non-profits.

The program is organized into 2 main areas: School District Wellness Programs and School-based Grants. In addition, we offer school nursing scholarship opportunities for nursing students.

School District Wellness Programs

Collaborating with wellness coordinators across eight school districts to establish a comprehensive wellness program grounded in the CDC’s Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child model.

School-based Grants

By invitation only, these grants provide funding for programs that address a wide range of important health areas.
